Information: Thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies (TPOAb) are of
pathological importance because they are present in the majority of
Hashimoto’s thyroiditis patients and correlate with the
active
phase of the disease. Unlike thyroglobulin autoantibodies
(TgAb),
they may damage thyroid cells by complement fixation. The
detection of thyroid peroxidase autoantibodies (TPOAb) and
thyroglobulin autoantibodies (TgAb), and the measurement of thyroid
stimulating hormone, have been used in determining the diagnosis and
management of autoimmune thyroid disorders.
